What Are Green Gilts — the mechanics
A green gilt is still a UK government bond. The green label describes use of proceeds, not a different credit ranking. Any greenium versus conventional gilts is usually small and should be checked with a dated quote.
The UK’s green gilt framework earmarks proceeds for eligible expenditures (transport, energy, etc.). The coupon is still paid from the Consolidated Fund like any other gilt. You do not have project-level credit risk.
Greenium — a slightly lower yield than a matched conventional — comes and goes. Measure it on the same maturity and on the same day; a 2021 anecdote is not a 2026 price.
If your mandate requires a green label, a green gilt or a green gilt fund is the clean UK sovereign expression. If your mandate is simply UK duration, a cheaper conventional of the same date usually dominates.
Official sources (UK Gilts)
Primary statistics and prospectuses for UK Gilts are published by the issuer, not by this newsroom. The labelled links at the end of this page go to those official sites (DMO, TreasuryDirect, Finanzagentur, MEF, AFT, SNB or ECB as relevant).
Our live board is a teaching overlay: dated prints, named sources, estimated ISIN lines. It is not a replacement for the issuer’s calendar.
Βασικά συμπεράσματα
- The UK’s green gilt framework earmarks proceeds for eligible expenditures (transport, energy, etc.).
- Prices and yields change. When this site quotes them, it dates them on the live board.
- Credit of a G7 government in its own currency is not the same as a stable screen price, and not the same as a bank deposit.
Συχνές ερωτήσεις
- Are green gilts safer than conventional gilts?
- No. Both are direct UK government obligations. Green status is about eligible spending, not seniority.
