Understanding UK Gilt Maturity Dates — the mechanics
Maturity is when par is repaid. It is not the same as duration, and it is not when you must sell. You can trade any time the market is open, at the then price.
The maturity date is when par (or uplifted par) is paid and coupons stop. It is not when you must sell. You can sell any business day the market is open, at the then price.
Gilt maturity calendars cluster around standard DMO dates. ‘2034’ in the name is the year, not a promise about which month until you read the line.
Laddering means buying several maturity years so cash arrives in a sequence. That is how many private gilt investors avoid a single reinvestment cliff.
Official sources (UK Gilts)
Primary statistics and prospectuses for UK Gilts are published by the issuer, not by this newsroom. The labelled links at the end of this page go to those official sites (DMO, TreasuryDirect, Finanzagentur, MEF, AFT, SNB or ECB as relevant).
Our live board is a teaching overlay: dated prints, named sources, estimated ISIN lines. It is not a replacement for the issuer’s calendar.

- Prices and yields change. When this site quotes them, it dates them on the live board.

- Do gilts have call dates like some corporates?
- Conventional gilts are typically not callable. You can rely on the stated maturity unless there is a rare, documented feature.
