How to Buy German Government Bonds — the mechanics
You do not need a special German account to hold a bund via a standard EU broker. Watch mini-lot sizes, accrued interest and whether you buy the on-the-run ISIN.
Primary: Finanzagentur auctions to Bund Issues Auction Group members. Secondary: banks, brokers, and Bund ETFs or funds.
German households sometimes use Bunds via their bank. Non-residents use international brokers. There is no TreasuryDirect clone with the same retail ease.
Watch the spread and the minimum piece. A €1,000 ticket in an off-the-run 30-year can be a worse deal than a Bund ETF for a small saver.
Official sources (Germany — Bunds)
Primary statistics and prospectuses for Germany — Bunds are published by the issuer, not by this newsroom. The labelled links at the end of this page go to those official sites (DMO, TreasuryDirect, Finanzagentur, MEF, AFT, SNB or ECB as relevant).
Our live board is a teaching overlay: dated prints, named sources, estimated ISIN lines. It is not a replacement for the issuer’s calendar.
